Healthy eating and Holiday nostalgia?

Share

Oh, boy, don’t get me started… The biggest hurdle to healthy eating is information overload. Lately a member of the family got a ‘high cholesterol’ call from her doctor. The only solution: take a pill for the rest of your life. Sounds familiar? “Is it possible to fix it with food?” question just got a blank look from the doctor. OK, I understand – not his specialty. How not to drown in information overload and have her stick with the food changes for a trial period?, I asked myself. (Don’t let my remarks stop you from following your doctor’s advice!!!)

I, on the other hand, reached for Sergey’s Young booklet “10 principles of healthy eating”. Why him? Because of Peter Diamandis… Young cites the 10 longevity diet principles, which you can find on his website. The bottom line principles are simple – eat not processed, all rainbow colours on the plate food, early in the day and fast for 16+ hours of evening and night.

On more digging, familial genes, chronic conditions and medications are skewing the efforts. Young is the founder of Longevity Vision Fund, and X Prize Foundation is working on larger than life projects, like lately tested Ana Avatar System that will transport a human’s senses, actions, and presence to a remote location in real-time, leading to a more connected world. It is deemed the Future of Telepresence in Action.

Boosting Immunity

How do you know you need to “boost” your immune system?
If you already have overreactive immunity, boosting can add more fuel to an inflammation you already have.
The name of the game is balance. What we’re really after is a well-tuned and resilient immune system that responds appropriately to environmental pathogens.
Viruses in our systems are a part of a normal and well-functioning microbiome. Most are even beneficial.

The immunity research can teach you something to grow your immunity resiliant, without blindly boosting it. Warning: Immunity boosting can do more harm than you think.

“Immunity is where intuition goes to die”.

Holiday Nostalgia

Christmas Spirit™ is a sweet, spicy blend. A holiday (and year-round!) favourite, it combines Orange, Cinnamon Bark and Black Spruce essential oils for a warm and uplifting scent that brings your loved ones close. It is my favourite go-to-the-neighbours gift giving walk in my neighbourhood.

Are probiotics useless?

Whaaat? As you may know, probiotics are seen as healthy and good for the gut, but the team at the Weizmann Institute of Science have determined they have little or no effect inside the body.

The researchers said in order to work, probiotics of the future would need to be tailored to the specific needs of each individual.
A probiotic cocktail using eleven common good bacteria, including essential strains of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria was given to 25 healthy volunteers for a month. Through tissue samples from gut and stomach the researchers were looking to see where bacteria successfully colonized and whether they led to any changes in the activity of the gut.

The results in the journal Cell, showed in half of volunteers the good bacteria went in the mouth and straight out the other end. So what’s the truth? Could consuming probiotics be a waste of time and money?
Dr Nicole Beurkens is answering these questions and more in a provocative new way.
